You can install the deb-file with your package manager, but I don't know where you will end up then.

Hi Markus,

I am not sure if this will work. The OP already posted something about a wrong architecture error. The --force-all switch prevents such an error.

4-2. Open the terminal and go to the directory where the drivers are.

By "going to the directory" I assume they mean using the terminal... how do I do that?

The directory where you downloaded the drivers to. I assume you are using Firefox to download the drivers. If you did not change the default download location then your drivers will be in
~/Downloads

You will get there by
Code:

cd ~/Downloads

Hi crts,

I've read the instructions on the brother-site, but I refer to the thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...h-cups-846633/ where I found the solution. As far as I understood what was going on, both, the cupswrapperdriver and the ppd file are shellscripts and therefore independent of the architecture. Also it seems that they (Brother) don't make a difference between 32 and 64 bit for every distribution.
Afaik, the "drivers" are only ppd files and there don't come any binary-files into play.

Anyway, I'm sure virori will get it work :)

Oops, I think, I confused something. When you said package manager I assumed you meant the GUI for it that is offered when you click on the links provided by deeh.

I found the file, it's as an attachement appended to this post. You'll have to rename it (without the .txt)
Code:

mv cupswrappermfc490cw.txt cupswrappermfc490cw
chmod 755 cupswrappermfc490cw
sudo ./cupswrappermfc490cw

this will hopefully create the ppd-file within the cups directory.
