printer help

hey there, not being able to print is the one thing holding me back from using linux all the time, i got ubuntu and wanted to setup my printer for it, so i tried the okidata site, found no help and then emailed them and got this response

Carus,

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

The printer isn't supported in a Linux environment. There are no plans for this
model printer to ever be supported in a Linux environment.

If we can do anything else for you in the future, please don't hesitate to ask!

it sounds so, hopeless, if anyone know of tutorials on how to setup stuff like this, the printer is on a network, its got an ip address of its own, but in windows uses a utility that makes it think its just connected to the comp, it is a okidata c5150n

Hi...
You can check here to see if you particular printer is listed as supported. If it is listed there, I bet you can use your printer with cups (common unix printing system) already included in your distro.

-Tux,
