printer drivers??

As a new ubuntu user, I'm trying to set everything up. I can't get my printer to function. It's a Canon pixma ip1700. I searched where I could, but no linux driver was listed. I'm not about to go buy a new printer, so what are my options?

Thanks

Try opening the page http://localhost:631 in your browser. Does a CUPS page appear? That page should help you configure it alternatively, if Ubuntu didn't catch it itself. Also try looking through the "Restricted Drivers" page in the GNOME menu under System > Administration.

Have a look at http://www.turboprint.info/. They offer a commercial alternative to CUPS and include drivers for many printers that normally work only on Windows, like the Canon PIXMA line of printers. It costs around $30, but its cheaper than buying a new printer.
