printer doesnt work on linux mint

my printer is not listed in the type of drivers it mentions to download in plug and play. the drivers listed dont come close to the number(465cn).
I have a brother mfc-465cn
where do i find the drivers that will be compatible. generic diver listed didnt work or other numbers listed under the 'brother' or 'mfc' brand.
any help would be appreciated.I went to the open printer website and my printer isnt listed there either. just brother and some other mfc's but nothing near what my printer is.
thanks

Hello joyspirited,

Please try next procedure:

sudo mkdir -p /usr/shar/cups/model
sudo aa-complain cupsd

download the lpr and cupswrapper packages for your MFC:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com.../en/index.html

now install first the lpr package, next install the cupswrapper package. Remove the printer and recreate the printer with the printer GUI. Now you should be able to print.

Best regards,

Yves

Perhaps installing and running printconf will work.

somebody convince me to stay with linux!

Hi All,
I really have like the idea of linux and it works well as fast as speed and software that is available but the compatibility issue is a bit too much for me. I have found open printer drivers for my printer, downloaded them but dont know how to install them and when i think i have, it still wont let recognize my printer. i have am almost new printer/fax/scanner combo 'mfc-456cn brother'.
anyone else have any ideas on what i can do that is not too complicated, before i call the quits on linux?
i really dont want to but feel i have no choice. I havent had a printer in two months. i really need one for my business and personal needs...:(
thanks

Your post on 3/3 implies that the problem was resolved. If not, why not continue in that thread?

To address your title question in this thread: No-one here is going to try and convince you of anything---you have to decide where you want to invest your time.

The way things are evolving, almost all printers work on Linux. There is no reason for that to be a "deal-breaker"

bret381 04-02-2010 04:03 PM

first, what version of cups are you running? 1.3 or 1.4
Code:

cups-config --version
1.4 has some compatability issues with some usb printers. I'm sure this will be fixed in time, but for now, I prefer to use 1.3...

Second, have you followed the instructions here?

Please tell us what you are doing to try and install and configure your printer.

Dear moderator,
the title was a lighthearted way of saying I need help. I really dont need anyone to actually convince me to do anything. sorry, I didnt continue the other post. i honestly couldnt find it or i was have continued with the thread. not use to posting here.
I like linux a lot and dont want to give up is why I am using a lighthearted title. no need to be so touchy. I need technical help i think,as it seems too difficult to install the printer drivers if they do work and solve the issue and I am at my witts end on this as it has been a couple months now and need my printer for business as well a personal use.
Bret381. I'll give the cups 1.3 a go. I am not at my computer at the moment so will try it out this week and follow the instructions you mention here for install if I understand them correctly and is not too technical for me. thanks again.I'll post if it solves the issue or if i am able to do this or not. I have one friend who can help me remotely with the issue possibly if it gets too technical for me.

All you have to do is go to "My LQ" on the right-hand side of the page---click on "My Posts".

I have reported this for merging with your other thread---good luck.
