Printer configuration on Mandriva 2009
I'm new to Linux and am trying out some live versions of distros. I'm working on a Fujitsu Lifebook with 512 MB RAM and an old 1.73 GHz processor. It has Windows XP Pro installed.
I could easily run Mandriva 2009 (aka Mandriva Linux One)from the DVD drive and also configured internet access so Firefox is running.
I have a home wireless/wired network. My router has two ethernet connected printers on it. One printer is a Brother Laser PrinterHL 5170DN and the other is a Canon Pixma MX850. I'm thinking I might have to download drivers but I have been stumbling around for a while. I thought the OS would look for the printers on the network and perhaps already have the drivers available. I'm trying to figure out how to configure Mandriva to search for the printers so I can print documents but nothing seems to work.
Any help you can offer will probably work, but so far I'm clueless.
Thanks.
