Hello sudarshankumar, welcome to LQ,

please provide more information, which printer, network or USB? are you using Cups? is cups running? do you have set the permissions properly?

Please describe in detail how you've configured the printer.

Did you print the 4-5 pages as root? and did you try printing afterwards as a normal user? if so, this can be a problem with the permissions.

Seems you're using cups, the cups web-interface can be opened in a browser, go to the adress
Code:

http://localhost:631
it's self explaining and provides much information. If you can't open the webinterface, most likely cups isn't running.

Hi markus i have restarted cups and i am printing through root user in localhost.I have printed 4-5 pages but after that it seems print que problem but using lpq commnad it says printer is ready no entries. So i think its not a problem with que.I am fully unaware of whats happening..

in the webinterface you can set the permissions. Look at "Administration". You can configure a list of users who are permitted to print and (be careful here) as well a list of users who are not permitted to print.

might be a bug
did you update it
5.1 is a bit old , but...

Code:

su -
yum update

now you do need the long term support for the backports to 5.1 from 5.6

but if you are going to use the 5 series you might want to upgrade to the current 5-- 5.6 or 5.7
( you are paying for it so ...)
Code:

yum upgrade
I do not know if skipping 5 versions will work
or
install the current RHEL 6.1

Problem in cinfiguring printer in rhel5.1

I am printing as a root user so i dont think permission may be the problem ..

sudarshankumar 08-29-2011 01:31 AM

i am doing CUP SERVER is localhost and user is root

markush 08-29-2011 01:51 AM

Do you have any other users than root? as you know you should have a non-root user account on your computer for daily use!

Yes i have should i try using that?

markush 08-29-2011 02:08 AM

when another user than root wants to print, he must be configured in the permissions.

Did you read the manuals for Cups, they are very detailed and informative.
