Printer Basics 101 Unistalling previous printer Dirver

Ok, before I start trying to get my printer up and running I got some basic questions.

Before I install an updated driver (HPIJS 1.3) do I need to uninstall the previous driver (HPIJS 1.1).

And How do I do that?
is there a method to uninstalling such as starting with the RPM for HPIJS 1.1? Or, does the new HPIKS need that old RPM for something?

Also, is there anything I need to do to get the other software to recognize the printer once the new HPIJS is installed?
I have an HP Deskjet 5550.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Looking at your profile I see your're running RH 8.0. Whenever I unplug my printer in 8.0 when I boot up, anaconda (checks for hardware changes) pops up and asks if I want to uninstall the device. Maybe this would work?
