Print configuration hangs for a while and fails
I just installed Fedora 1.0 and all is going well except for setting up my printer (HP Laserjet 3200).
I want my linux station to print on a Windows XP home edition. I installed Samba on my linux machine. I load Printer Configuration and add a new print queue. I select the Network Windows (SMB) queue type and I can see my XP machine and its printer in the list. When I select the HP printer from the list, this program takes something like 5 minutes before it shows another dialog where I can enter authentication info. I enter appropriate values for: - Workgroup - Server - Share - User name - password Now when I try to enter the username and password of an account on the XP box, or "guest" with a password, or MACHINE_NAME/username, none of this works: it takes another 5 minutes before this same dialog shows up again without any feedback or details. Any clue? Thanks, Claude |
I forgot to mention that I did share the printer on the XP box.

are you running a firewall? i ask because that caused me some trouble setting up my printer. other than that have a look here.
http://ldp.kernelnotes.de/HOWTO/Debi...o_windows.html it's a debian distro, but i used the information successfully to setup my slackbox just recently. |
