print

Fedora Core 1 no gui

CUPS 1.1.19

I've attempted to install a printer using:

lpadmin -p hp2250tn -v socket://10.13.0.107

printer is an HP Business Inkjet 2250tn, and is a network printer.

the printer is showing up in the printers.conf file.

I tried to print to the printer using:

lpr /etc/samba/smb.conf hp2250tn

and

lpr /etc/samba/smb.conf 10.13.0.107

( i just figured that the smb.conf file was as good a thing as any to print)

both resulted in a 'no such file or directory'

I'm very new to CUPS, as you may have guessed, any help will be appreciated. Ideally I want to share printers out to windows machines from this box, but right now I'm just trying to get the prionter installed and printing. The video system in this box is not beefy enough for x apparently, so I'm doing it all from the shell. I love the experience but right now I'm longing for a gui

try this command:

lpr -Php2250tn /etc/samba/smb.conf

note: some versions of lpr need a space between the -P and the printer name, some versions don't...
if this doesn't help, try "man lpr" for more information about the lpr command, it has some more options. if this doesn't, post any error message you get

you'll need samba for this...

thanks,

I tried this, and received the error:

lpr: unable to print file: server-error-not-accepting-jobs

(BTW, I'm trying to RTFM, but still, all assistance is greatly appreciated)

well, seems the printer is not accepting jobs kidding, I don't know exactly how to solve this, because I always use webmin to manage printers... however maybe there's something in the cupsd manual or maybe another linux specialist around here?

succes with this,

Have you tried (after deleting old printer install with lpadmin -x):

1. /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p [printer] -E -v [device] -m [specific ppd file]
2. restart cups server
3. enabling printer : /usr/bin/enable [printer]

I'd highly recommend going through the admin manual at www.cups.org...

I'll check it out. I'm actually trying to do this in raw mode, so I haven't loaded the ppd's. My understanding is that post script printing uses more resources, and I need to spare them wherever I can on this machine.
