Primary Linux Firewall linked to Secondary Windows Units?

Toying with the idea of using my ancient IBM ThinkCentre as a standalone firewall. Scenario: CAT5 to Router>Linux Firewall(IBM)>Another router>Output to Windows systems (up to three). Viable? Logic is that Linux negates badware. However assuming this setup, say I've downloaded a specific MS virus with this setup (which Linux is prone to via architecture) and passes to unprotected Win. Fail? And what cables to do such inter connectivity? Anyone?

Most internet connected routers do firewalling for you.
