Preserving personal files between distros

What directories should be mounted on a separate partition to keep personal files (and applications) intact when I change from one distro to another?

Er, the directories that contain your personal files (and applications).:)
Of course, the apps could be tricky as they'll probably have been installed in /usr/bin, and the libs in /usr/lib.
