pppoe on fedora7
Hello friends....
Can you please help me out with this...
I have a pppoe connection....On xp wat I do is download RASPPPOE and then select a access controller from the list and then make a connection for the same...After that I put my username and password...
Recently I have installed Fedora 7...the problem is that it connects to eth0 but doesnt connect to ppp0...I make a xdsl connection put my username passwd and also access controller and service name properly but still i get an error $null something...I have used this with fedora core 6 before and it worked but now I dont seem to get it working with fedora 7..
Thanx in advance

Firstly, with Windows XP, I don't see why you're using a third-party PPPoE dialer when Windows XP comes with one anyways.
I haven't messed around with PPPoE connections for a while (ahhh the joys of a router), but I know one of the preferred PPPoE clients for Linux is RP-PPPOE (Roaring Penguin PPPoE). Fedora should come with it available on the install DVD (or it may already be installed).
Go into a console and type "adsl-setup" or "pppoe-setup" as root, and this will step you through setting up a PPPoE connection.

$CONNECT "$@" > /dev/null 2>&1
I get connected to local ethernet but not to pppoe....I even tried installing rp-pppoe but still same error...somebody pls tell what it means..The same settings used to work on fedora 7 and my net is working fine on windows(dual boot)...Pls help me!

One thing that could be the issue is the way you're typing in your username.
I know with adsl-setup, because I'm in Canada, I have to type in my DSL user name in this format:
Code:
dsl_user_name@isp.[ca|com|net]
Try reconfiguring your DSL client on Linux by typing in your user name like that; it should look like an email address.

Thanx alot guys finally I solved it
The prob was the kernel Xen...which i dunno why has the error on pppoe so i booted to another kernel...which is the base kernel
There wat I did was...
Connect to eth0 by normal network manager the find ipadress by doing ifconfig/all then making the ip static
Then i added a new connection(xDSL) and then added my access controller and service name (pppoe -A) then voila I'm done....

1st check ur kernel by typing uname -rm in the terminal Booting from other kernel is easy as fedora installs another kernel as a backup kernel..So when system boots up and grub shows press any key do that and select the other kernel..That's it!
