LinuxQuestions.org - pppd options error - exit code 2 (suse 10.3 with speedport W700V router/dsl modem)

hi,

i am completely new to linux, i never used it before.

now i installed a suse 10.3 and everything went fine,
except the connection to the internet which does not work.

i have an nvidia reference board (chipset 680i) with nvidia network
onboard (mcp55).

i have the german telekom router SPEEDPORT W700V (which is a router as well as a dsl modem).
my provider is t-online (german telekom).

i did set up everyting regarding the dsl as described here

(german, but the pictures show it easily to anyone)

but anyhow, when connecting via kinternet, after a second with the yellow flash symbol it quits and the log says :

"pppd[0] died : pppd options error (exit code 2)"

my questions :

1.) what is pppd exit code 2 ?
(man pppd does not tell me the exit codes)

2.) is there anywhere a explanation for dummies how to get internet to
work, with the speedport w700v router/dsl modem ?

i tried to change various options, but whatever i did, the same error occured.
the provider setup is ok, i assume the problem is somewhere in the hardware setup, either dsl or network card.

is there maybe someone with the same router that can post here the configuration files completely (with content and where they must be located). this is probably easier than a step-by-step guide howto setup
network card and dsk with all their many options.

i even cannot reach my router for setup (it is reachable through a browser like firefox by ip 192.168.2.1 ,
i once had access to it short ago, but then i must have changed something that was necessary for it to be reachable and now i cannot reach it anymore, always get "error-not reachable". what must i change (in dsl or probably network card setup) ?
i have entered the nameserver 192.168.2.1 at various locations, and once i had the router, but now it is lost again, i am completely stuck with all these network options.

i need help (very detailed, for absolute hyper-dummies).
