ppp problem - maybe bsd_comp.o

hi there,

I've been struggling sometime to work out why my connection is failing.
I've got a winmodem intel 536ep.
It was fine with RH9, but I installed Fedora and I can't connect to internet anymore.
I'm using kppp : my modem dials, send name and password and ....
nothing more.

my /var/log/messages is as follows:

Apr 3 18:03:12 localhost pppd[4421]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
Apr 3 18:03:12 localhost pppd[4421]: Using interface ppp0
Apr 3 18:03:12 localhost pppd[4421]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/536ep
Apr 3 18:03:17 localhost insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/drivers/net/bsd_comp.o: insmod ppp-compress-21 failed
Apr 3 18:03:17 localhost insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/drivers/net/bsd_comp.o: insmod ppp-compress-21 failed
Apr 3 18:03:47 localhost pppd[4421]: CCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Apr 3 18:03:47 localhost pppd[4421]: IPCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Apr 3 18:03:53 localhost pppd[4421]: Connection terminated.
Apr 3 18:03:53 localhost pppd[4421]: Exit.

so I suppose I have some problem with bsd_comp.o. Thus. I run :

insmod /lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/drivers/net/bsd_comp.o
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/drivers/net/bsd_comp.o: kernel-module version mismatch
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/drivers/net/bsd_comp.o was compiled for kernel version 2.4.22-1.2115.nptlcustom
while this kernel is version 2.4.22-1.2115.nptl.

how I can solve it?
I really appreciate any help on this matter.
I'm tired of rebooting into windows to google any solution....

cheers,
William

Hi

you can try to force module insertion: insmod -f mymodule.o
Or you can also recompile your kernel with CONFIG_MODVERSION option enable...
Hope this help you
