PowerShot A601 Canon Digital

I can not reply to other posts until I have submitted 3 posts.

I appreciate the advice so far received and have gone to the site mentioned.

I am not lazy, you just do not understand how much of a newbie I am.

I have come down the the canon and still cannot find out if it is compatible with linux. Could someone that really knows tell me there is a very good deal on ebay at the moment.

check out gphoto2 for digital camera software for Linux,

other just mount their camera as filesystem, i never quite got the hang of that, but i was lucky i found gphoto2 for my camera

I didn't know there was an A601. Sure it isn't an A610? If it is, then it's supported by gphoto2

Most cameras are either "mass storage devices" or use the PTP protocol.

Canon use the PTP protocol, which is supported under Linux by gphoto2. It should be plug 'n' play under most distros. If not, you'll need to grab gphoto2 (and possibly gtkam or digiKam). Most distros have these packages now.

If you don't want to use gphoto2, you can buy a USB card reader which will enable Linux to treat your camera's memory card as a mass storage device.

Simple. Either way, this camera is supported.
