Powermac G5 stops booting after loading the kernel and drivers
Well, I've figured out how to get my live CDs to boot in my Powermac G5, but after they load the kernel, a problem occurs. For about half a second, lines of text scroll by that (based on squinting) seem to be loading drivers, but then the screen abruptly goes black and non-responsive. After a couple of minutes, it's still black and I can't do anything except hard reboot. Am I just being too impatient?

What are those live-CD? Are you sure they are PPC ones?

Is it an apple cinema display?
I have tried several livecd's on my G5 and they all do the exact same thing. I had to attach my old 17" studio CRT to get it to work. I guess there are just no drivers able to handle the cinema display... |

Yup, this is exactly the case. I too have an old CRT, but it's a Dell, and when I unplugged the cinema and just used the Dell, nothing happened at all, not even the screen where I can type "live". Nada. Of course, then I tried this when booting normally in OS X, and the same thing happened. Is there some problem with the CRT or my video card (it's an ATI X800XT)? Thanks. |
