Power management
I have red hat 7.3 installed on my laptop, and I can't powerdown without it hanging. If i go to log out it hangs, and the charging light and the light next to it flash, and nothing happens. I had this problem with red hat 8.0, and downgraded, because I thought it would help. What can I do to fix this?
Also, is there a way to stop my laptop from hanging when i close the screen? It goes into some powersaving mode and then it never comes out... it's pretty annoying. I would like to get rid of that too. |
I'm pretty sure you need to enable Advanced Power Management in the kernel when compiling the kernel. I don't think it's configured by default, so you have to configure a new kernel, compile it, and install it.
Generally, I wouldn't downgrade, and 8.0 probably has more features. |
I don't like 8.0's dumbed down version of KDE... i need to fix this power problem ASAP though... is there any other way to do it?

A recompile, enabling all APM options, and disabling SMP seems to do the trick. And quick tip for anyone with power problems, you must disable SMP support to use APM!
