Do you get any errors on shutdown? What exactly happens when you try to power down? What command do you use to power down?
NIC--do you have any lights on the NIC? What happens when you reboot--does it light up, or nothing at all? Have you tried to reseat the NIC to make sure it's securely fit into place? Have you tried the NIC in a different slot? Do you get any errors when you type: "ifconfig eth0 up" (without quotes and using the correct assignment for the NIC in case it's not eth0) in command line? The more information we have, the better we can help. Thanks.:D |
The lights on the NIC only tell you if you have a connection to another computer using crossover ethernet cable or you are connected to a hub/switch/bridge/router. The lights do not tell you if the NIC is functioning properly. Lights will still be on if the NIC is damage.
hbcat2002, you may have changed something or uninstalled an rpm package. Check linuxconf or another program that configures LINUX. You can always look through all your directories and find conf files. |
typically if your computer (after you tell it to shutdown) goes through its whole shutdown process of killing daemons and unmounting drives then says 'power down' and just sits there... it typically means that power management has not been turned on. I know that until I get apm put into the kernel it won't power off the machine. modprobe apm at boot up and it should be able to turn itself off... as for the nic... begin at the beginning... what does /proc/pci say, and is the module for the nic loaded?

MY NIC card I have check and reseated the card check the connections all fine also check druid, I did configure a new monitor using Xconfigurator the card shows up but will activate,
Shutdown during shut down there are no error message, using the off switch no error messages system shut with no hungups or anything |
if you type as root '/sbin/shutdown -h now'... the system then goes through its shutdown process... does it turn itself off... or does it print to the monitor "power down" and then you have to turn it off?
