povray installation

povray installation ( post #1)

Hi ! I'm new to Linux and I don't know anybody who knows how to use it properly. I have a problem with the installation of pov-ray. I'm using Linux mandrake 9.1 and i downloaded the pov-ray driver at the site of povray: povray.org or something like that, but I can't understand the installation readme file at all. They say I have to edit a file /src/obtout.h but I can't find it .I can't even find the "src" folder. Is it really important ? Then they say I must run ./configure in the folder of the file, but as I didn't find it, I can't. I tried to see if it wasn't an uninstalled package, but it doesn't look so. Please help me, and if you do, can you talk easily, cause I don't understand well english.

Long life to Linux.

Thanks for your help.

It looks you downloaded the source package. In my opinion it would be much easier with binary one: you just need to unpack it and run installation script:
tar xvfz povlinux.tgz
cd povray35
./install

You can download it from here: http://www.povray.org/redirect/www.p...x/povlinux.tgz

Rather not :) Don't report your own posts in the future - you may make a mod angry 9not me, but it's possible:) ).

Thanks but I've still got one question :
How can I launch the software ,
Cause I'm able to use it with K Pov Modeler, but I don't know how to launch the actual graphical interface.

Thanks

I think that you can try this: open a terminal and then type
kpov
It should start. If it works, create a shortcut in the panel or in the menus (or both).

Thanks, but it doesn't work. Anyway I'm not trying to launch kpov modeler but povray.

See you
