Possible topics of interest in Artfil Aardvaark Ubuntu 17.10
Running an early version of a pre-release operating system is like crossing a mine field blindfolded. Lucky for those of us who can stand the stress and frustrations, the system faults that occur with 17.10 seem to be non-destructive. For example, I get a system failure flag several times a day associated with nautilus-desktop. I don't use nautilus, preferring Nemo in its place, but if one were to try to remove nautilus, some many dependencies are removed along with it that the OS crashes. Better off leaving it alone and quitting the system failure dialog without filing a known persistent bug that won't likely be cured until October 19th, release date for 17.10.
Another persistent system failure was the inability of an icon to find the top panel location into which it was to be written. It was a known bug, but recent upgrades to gnome-shell made that one go away.
Running Artful 17.10 is really quite pleasant and productive. I get a lot of work done and never lose any important data. I think a good topic for LQ would be What Non-destructive System Failures Can you Live With in 17.10 until the release date? I suspect the list would be long, but getting shorted day by day. The number of updates don't seem to wait around for the release date but happen hour by hour. For example, today kernel 4.12.xx came in, and we'll surely see 4.13 soonest. I've jumped onto pre-release alphas and betas of Ubuntu several times in the past. Some were difficult to live with, but the new Artful 17.10 is well-behaved even as it lets you know that all the pieces to the puzzle weren't in the box you got it from.
