Question Possible to change default print dialog to kprinter?

In another thread I posted about printing issues with Debian, and I haven't seen anything from Debian since I reported the bug. Anyway, I thought maybe it was possible, as it seems the print dialog program is what's causing the "hanging" issue, to change the print dialog box to an alternate program. I've been Google'ing this for a day now and found kprinter4. I apt-get installed it, but I don't know how to test it. If possible, I'd like to make kprinter4 the default for either individual programs or globally. I'm stuck as I don't know how to do this.
Can anyone shed some light or give me some ideas? I will post if I find a way to do this myself.

Thanks

Edit:
If I can change the kprinter4 to default in just Icedove/Thunderbird and Firefox, that would be awesome, as this is application our users print from the most.
