?possible? Linux Install idea
 

i was wondering is there a way to install linux on a old laptop that just has a floppy drive? its an old mac that i want to run a nicer version of linux. any ideas? thanks a bunch guys

try netbsd.

most versions of linux and the bsd's have boot floppies
you can do an internet install with.

Or try damnsmall linux or slackware....in fact there are lots of distro's that fit on floppy..remember thats how it used to be in the old days :)

probably not, but then again you said it was a mac powerbook, right?
first of all, it would be usefull if you posted the specs
does it have macos installed?
what is the model of powerbook?
how big is the hard drive?
how much ram?
as for floppy based distros, i have yet to see one tha works on a mac, if it's a powerpc laptop then you have more options, such as yellowdog,debian ppc, suse ppc, mandrake ppc, as for a 68k old powerbook, then you could try debian's m68k distributions, however 68k mac support, while not exactly 'experimental' leaves alot to be desired in my humble oppinion, not to bash anyone i'ts just that apple is tight lipped about it's specs so i'ts hard to write anything for the 68ks
older powerbooks (as in 1998 or older, possibly 1999) have scsi, so you could get an external scsi cdrom to perform the installation for you as well.
