possible character encoding probelm - some characters show up wrong.

Ok, firstly hello all.
I've had RedHat Linux 9 installed on my second machine for 4 days, mostly I have a good mess around whilst reading the manuals and so far alls going better than I thought.

Depending on how the Linux community as a whole treats me, I may just dump every Microsoft OS I have.

Ok thats my intro, heres my small problem.

Using evolution and the web browsers, I've noticed that some characters such as the '£' and '$' sign don't always show up as they should. I know it can be down to the originator of the message or web site, but this seems to be happening on most html newsletters etc.

Any help appreciated. Normally I would bither with such a small problem but this one is hacking me of.

i'd guess you're using a character map that ain't right for you. Try KDE and see if it does it as well.

Also, does it happen when you type? or only on other peoples text? Is it only in a certain font?

Sorry to be of so little help, there isn't enough info here :)

I'll try that.

Sorry about the lack of info. When I re-post I'll try to add some more. To answer your questions, it doesn't happen when I send myself an email. I'll run some tests and see what happens over the next few days.

I was chancing it just in case it was an easy one to solve. If I cure it and know how I did I'll post it back here for others.

Many thanks for now.
Colin
