port 3128

What is the significance of port 3128 in the squid.conf file , how does it work?

repo 04-05-2009 05:19 AM

you need to connect to the proxy using port 3128

whacky_john_007 04-05-2009 05:26 AM

Okay, so there are cases where we change it to 8080, what is that for?

repo 04-05-2009 05:30 AM

8080 is a common port for proxies.
You can use every port you want, as long as the port is free, the service listen on that port, and the application uses that port to connect.
Squid uses port 3128 by default.

whacky_john_007 04-05-2009 05:35 AM

okay ,here the service that's Squid and the application like a browser(IE)..connects to the port that is mentioned in the squid.conf file?

repo 04-05-2009 05:36 AM

As long as you configure the browser to use port 3128 for proxy.
