Edit your /etc/resolv.conf and your rc.d script, edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf, once done restart rc.inet1 and you'll get online. ;)
Code:
# pico /etc/resolv.conf |
I think you need to provide more info, what kind of connection is this ? etc.
If it is an ethernet connection it's usually as simple as running 'netconfig' as root. Also have a look through the slackbook, link in my sig, it may help. |
well appearantly the probelm was my firewall settings were blocking all incomming info so i had to disable it and now could use some advice on a good firewall to use

Well I think its time for me to get this working properly so heres whats going on. When I boot linux it auto enables my ethernet card (Realtek RTL8139/810x) i start KDE (I think thats what its called... its the xwindows thing that comes with slack) i then need to open a terminal and my network settings and type pppoe-start in the terminal. It should be connected at that point but its not. I then need to disable/enable my ethernet card until I get this error message: There was an error changing the device's state. You will have to do it manually. At this point I need to type pppoe-stop(sometimes twice as it doesnt allways work properly the first time) then pppoe-start yet again. This is really starting to annoy me so any help would be appreciated. I'm using a DSL connection, no router(I refuse to get one so dont suggest it) and no shared connection just my computer directly to the modem(its actually called a gateway) If you need any more info please let me know.
