Hi catkin,

Many thanks for your reminding.

I think it is a tough job, however if we do that, we have a beginning, or we have nothing.

Thank you again.

I remind you that you are at Linuxquestions.org, in the forum that deals with Linux questions for those that are new to GNU/Linux. Meaning the emphasis is on GNU/Linux.

While all constructive contributions are valued, trying to pimp proprietary, expensively licensed, standard-breaking "software" of this particular vendor founded to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800 is not only sad in a way the definition of sad doesn't really cater for, it's also completely off topic. I suggest you stop it.

The OP says he wants OSS, you persist in advertising certain products. I state facts, you retaliate with fiction. I suggest you follow the Law of the land, you give me an attitude. That is not a mature way to deal with things.

But I do find your misrepresentations mildly humorous.

Thank all for suggestions.

I would like to try OpenDocMan, http://www.opendocman.com/.

Simple features.

I am considering using Wiki system.

This article introduce many Wiki systems.
http://onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2004/...hich_wiki.html

I am considering using Content management system too.
http://drupal.org/
http://www.joomla.org/

There are plenty of choices which are open source.

I will take time to test the solutions and discuss with my colleagues.

It may be a little too fully featured in some ways, but Zimbra is becoming more and more used. It is aimed as an MS Exchange alternative, but also seems to be heading towards the document sharing/collaboration end too.

I mentioned SharePoint to one of our document managers once. The polite answer he gave is that it is no good if you are uploading lots and lots of documents and there are better proprietary alternatives out there!

KnolwedgeTree is, Drupal is a content management system.

As far as OpenSource DMS' go, there's also Alfresco that's noteworthy.

Cheers,
Tink

I wonder, is this knowledge base supposed to have any legal standing as an official document repository? If so, do any of the FOSS solutions bundle Bates numbering, bar-coding, OCR, and PDF creation in one application?

Once you scan the documents, a package like Picasa from google will allow you to consolidate the pictures and add comments along with each picture. I think that is what you want. The advantage of picasa is that it takes care of the member functions that you need.

So, please try:
(1) Scan a few documents and convert them to picture format.
(2) Upload them using PICASA.

End
