Please help to upgrade gnome

Hi i already post a thread asking any help to upgrade Gnome in to 2.4 version. I am using Red Hat 9.0 and i found packages .tar in a CD found in a magazine.
Somebody suggest me to use garnome, and somebody else apt-get, but both take me a lot of download packages i already have in the CD i told before. The bad thing is i have a 56k bit modem so it's quite impossible to upgrade anything. Does anybody helps me to upgrade my Gnome using packages i already have? It seems to be stupid tar xvf, ./configure, make and make install each of 60 packages?
Please help me! Thanks.
