Please help.. system will not start up
i'm running fedora 7 from the image of the livecd
yum had issues. i removed JRE with pirut, the gui for yum, and later i noticed that /usr/bin was missing. am i suppose to have a /usr/bin ? im pretty sure i had one... few other strange thing happened that seen minor so i restarted... When i restarted, many things i have on clue about said 'command not found' or something like that. after, something like INIDT: X is respawing to fast: Disabled for 5 min, so i waited and it happened again so i waited and it happened again. how do i get back the /usr/bin ..it seems to be causing these new problems.. i'm thinking about reinstalling w/o overwriting the main parition w/ all the files. is that suggested? if so how? what do i do?... where can i go to get help... |
Please clarify your configuration and some other details.
For example, did you install Fedora onto your hard disk? When you attempt to re-start, describe in more detail the steps it goes thru, and the EXACT error messages. Can you still boot up from the live CD? If you simply re-install, you will overwrite whatever is now on the partition(s). |
"Can you still boot up from the live CD?"
"i'm running fedora 7 from the image of the livecd" so yes. "For example, did you install Fedora onto your hard disk?" yes and that wouldn't start up. "When you attempt to re-start, describe in more detail the steps it goes thru, and the EXACT error messages." i don't remember them all but the common ones are what i mentioned above. 1)command not found or/and directory not found 2)then INIT: X is respawing to fast: Disabled for 5 min these two are the main and i think only soooo the /usr/bin is missing so i guess that's why im getting the first one. and X will not start because of the second? "please clarify your configuration and some other details." ummm... yum did ite it has issues and i don't vnow what it did in the background "If you simply re-install, you will overwrite whatever is now on the partition(s)." that's not good; cannot erase the files |
you could try a repair installation of fedora
