Please help - Problems with X on Redhat 8.0
I have an intel 82815 graphics controller, IBM E74 monitor.
I am trying to install RH 8.0 on VMware, but I am having problems with starting X. Fatal server error: no screens found When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send the full server output, not just the last messages. This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log". XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.:newbie: |
did you run Xconfigurator?
|
How do I do that?
|
While logged in as root at the prompt type this..
Code:
Xconfigurator |
have you tried runnning redhat-config-xfree86 from the command line? this should give you the options that you will require to get your X server up and running
|
Ok, I just ran that and this is what it gave me:
Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/XF86Config Undefined Device "i810" referenced by Screen "Screen)" ddcprobe returned bogus values: ID: None Name: None HorizSync: None VertSync: None Cannot start X server Please help |
Was having the same problem today.
Once the os is loaded, you have to run the VMware tools. [In VMware menu > Settings > VMWare Tools Install] Check out the Vmware help under "vmware tools". Hope that helps! |
Do you ever get any feedback when you try to download the Vmware tools? I don't get anything..is that right?
|
feedback from?
the vmware tools are supposed to be included when you downloaded vmware. Well, in the 3.2 i'm using anyway they are included. But i remember seeing something about where/how to download the vmware tools in the help also. Read up on it. |
I did...under settings..there is an option to install vmware tools and I click on it, and I don't see it doing anything...when I go back to settings that option has changed to cancel vmware tools install. Does it take that long?
You also have the intel graphics card? |
i have a geforce2.
did you mount the iso image and run ./install.pl? Go in the vmware help index. Type [Using VMware Tools] > Click [Installing VMware Tools] > Click [Installing VMware Tools in a Linux guest operating system] i've followed these instructions and got x to start. |
IT WORKS !!!!!!
thank you sooo much. |
Is your mouse working?
Cuz mine doesn't. I can log in and use the keyboard though. I have a ms intellimouse. |
Yeah my mouse and keyboard worked from the moment I installed RH.
