Please help:/home/username problem.

hii,i was working on linux server and suddenly while checking one user's data i tried to login and i got a message like following:

"You home directory is listed as /home/xxx but it does not appear to exist. Do you want log in with the /(root) directory as your home directory ? It is unlikely anything will work unless you use a failsafe session"

please help me with that..i tried to get a solution but dint find nything clear and strong output...please help.

The users home could have been removed, restore from backup.

Or the /etc/passwd file could have been erroneously modified. Does the directory actually exist?

Or your hard drive can be failing, and that's just the first sign.

Also, please don't double-post the same question twice in two different forums...
