...attempt to boot from the xbuntu Cd,it will not allow me to when the Hard drive is connected...Every time i disconnect the Hd , low and behold i am here??When it is connected the CD will not boot???? The hard drive is my old D drive..only has some music files on it,was formatted about two weeks ago,no partitions, just some music,is this a drive issue?I doubt that.. I am very curious as to why this may be happening,is there some conflict?
Help me! I want to boot up with the live disc put it on this drive as my OS...

Have you set the boot order correctly in your BIOS, so that the CD-ROM drive is the primary boot device?

It sounds like you might have the CD-ROM as secondary, so every time the HDD is connected it doesn't even read the CD. That, or you might have a problem with the master/slave jumpers on the drives that prevents them from working simultaneously.

Check your BIOS settings. You can specify a boot order. If you only want to boot from CD then remove the hard drive as a bootable device.

I believe i have the boot order correct..However could you please tell me what order?...Cd,hd1...is that correct?

With the Hard drive hooked up Xbuntu starts to boot however freezes and doesnt go anywhere,flashing cursor??..so it looks like it is booting from the Cd rom..When i unplug the Hard drive the cd boots right up getting me here...What can i do?

So you actually see the Xubuntu CD load (I.E. the logo comes up and you get a boot menu)? In that case, then your boot order would be correct since it is actually starting the CD.

Are you sure the hard drive and cable are good? The kernel will take a lot of time trying to negotiate with a malfunctioning drive and it could appear to be frozen up. If the drive isn't operating properly, you could easily see long boot times or actual failures. Is there any way to pull the drive out and test it in another machine? Or have you tried another live CD to see if the same problem happens there?
