Please help
Hi, guys I'm new here and to Linux.
My question is: How do I reformat my HD in Linux(cuz I want to remove both Linux RH 6.2 and WIn98 and install RH 9.0 and WinXP)? Another question is : At the lilo boot, when I choose DOS, I get an error message saying: "invalid disk error" and Win doesn't load. What does that mean and how can I fix it? Thanks in advance. |
please choose a more useful thread title for your next question. it should give a brief summary of the question. thanks

Breifly, create the partitions with an fdisk program. I prefer a Linux fdisk (cfdisk) since Windows fdisk doesn't create my primary and secondary partitions correctly.
You, of course, have already decided how many, and what type partitions you need. Primary for Win XP (NTFS?), a FAT32 partition for sharing files with Linux (?), a minimum of swap and root for Linux. Format your partitions during install of each OS. See if you have problems with your bootloader with your new install. Good Luck. |
Thank you for your help.
The problem is that I'm new to Linux, thus what you just said makes no sense to me whatsoever. How do you create partitions, what's fdisk? Thanks |
My turn to ask a question. How did you get Red Hat and Windows 98 on your PC previously?
|
The thing is I got it second-hand.
And I would like to reformat everything and install new OSes so I can personalize it. And thank you again |
A couple more questions then, sorry.
Is your Windows XP install CD the retail version or OEM version? Do you know your computer specs? Processor, RAM, hard drive size, types of video and sound cards? If not, you can use something like the Belarc Advisor in Windows to find out. That would be step one. |
Are you getting your install figured out, millenco?
