please help
 

im new to redhat 5 enterprise
while viewing the http://freshrpms.net/ web page, i downloaded and installed some rpm package. it is named "freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm"
after i installed it my panel shows that my computer is not receiving the updates. i dont know what to do.
i had also recently installed "ogle" dvd player
finally now im unable to even open the "add/remove software","software updater". it shows that retriving software information and finally shows that due to non presence of network unable to open
when i look in to the details it shows that "Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: freshrpms"

i need help.
please, any one help me.

Well, for a start I believe fc => fedora core, which is not exactly the same as RHEL ...

- If you list the packages contents with 'rpm -ql freshrpms-release' you will see it has added a configuration file for the repository: /etc/yum.repos.d/freshrpms.repo. If you look at the file (plain text) you will see the "baseurl" directive is commented out and it is enabled ("enabled = 1"). You can either test by uncommenting the baseurl directive or disable using this repo by setting enabled to 0.
- Yum relies on a working network connection so if you have any network connection problems you should fix those first.
- While not a best practice a lot of times it *is* possible to mix Fedora and EL packages. I suggest you use the RPMForge repo (http://dag.wieers.com/packages/rpmforge-release) instead because it carries EL5 packages.

i dont have any permissions to change the OS.
more over i even dont know how to install the OS.

Thanx a lot for ur advice. Finally now im able to try to install other rpm packages. And from an hour my computer is not showing any warnings like ur system is not receiving any updates.

Since RHEL is commercial, shouldn't you be able to call support for this kind of thing?
