Please help!
 

I just installed red hat 7.2 and have never used any of this software before.

I wrote a paper on Abiword and saved the item, however as try and retrieve it, it says this is a bogus file, or error in opening file.

How can I attain this file?

well if you saved it as abiwords native .abw format then no other program can read it properly. all i can suggest is opening it in an basic editor like emacs or pico and seeing if you can extract the text from it manually.

and please use USEFUL thread titles in future e.g. "abiword document corrupt"

Check if the extension is the same as the right file format. I mean check if you can open it choosing different file formats in Abiword.
