Playing videos with mplayer

Ok, I've installed mplayer using yum, and then I even installed the additional codecs for mplayer with help from this guide:

But I still cannot view the videos at sites such as and

All I get is a grey screen that says mplayer:

Is there anything else I have to do to get it working?

you need the mplayer plugin
lets see, the file was called mplayerplug-in-2.75.tar.gz
and i think it was hosted on sourceforge

Well, I think I already had it installed. But I installed the one from source forge and it still only displays that grey screen.
