Question playing videos on linux


i came to know about linux through seminar in my university (DAVV).i am very new to linux. somehow i have installed opensuse 10.2. i am facing problem in playing videos. totem shows a message regarding that it needs some plug ins to play mpg, avi, dat etc media. please tell me about these plugins and where to find them

you need to install the codecs this link will be helpfull

Question

i have downloaded the win32codecs. i extracted the folder, but i could not find the install or readme file. another thing; the file i downloaded was in .tar.tar format

You can try installing Mplayer. It supports almost all the formats of video and audio.

.tar is a tarball. this is assemble of various files into one package. This is used for backing up and etc.

You can untar and extract the files within it use this code

I'm also fairly new to OpenSUSE 10.2, and found this page to be extremely helpful as far as getting it fully "up and running" with stuff like this:
