Playing sounds (wav) in xchat

I am a newcomer to linux. Using xchat and find it to be a good irc system. I admit that I was a WinBlows user for many years and amongst my favourite applications was mIRC. It had a feature in it to play sounds on the channel. I am a member ofa chennel where sounds are part of our fun. We all have hundreds of short wav files that we play. When a member does not have a copy, they get the offer of it when someone plays the wav file.

Has anyone found a script or a setting that would allow the playing of a wav file in xchat. Since I am a convert to Linux, I want to show off to my winblows friends that I can play sounds too.

Thanks in advance
