playing mp3
how to play mp3 or video in linux3, tell me the details.
In linux sound driver is neccesary to install or not. |
Most linux distributions provide packages that contain programs which will play mp3 files and files of various video formats.
I've never heard of "linux3" before. Can you tell us linux distribution are you running? With that information we should be able to help you play your audio and video files. Cheers, Evo2. |
You play an mp3 the same way as in Windows: Open an audio player and navigate to the file or open a file manager and click on the file.
Most Linux installation programs sniff out your sound card and install the proper drivers. Some sound cards can be troublesome. Most Linux installations also include one or more audio players. Some questions you need to answer before we can help you further: 1. Which Linux distribution? "Linux3" doesn't tell us much. Something more specific, such as Ubuntu [version number], Linux Mint [version number], CentOS [version number], or the like would help. 2. What sound card? If you're not sure what sound card, you can use the dmesg command to find out. Also, if it's a mass-produced computer, you should be able to find out in the paperwork or at the manufacturer's website. 3. Have you tried to play an mp3 and, if so, what program did you use or what program did the OS select and what happened? |

SOund driver is by default installed in most of the distributions. You have to just install your favourite media player(VLC,mplayer,xine..) to play the media. |

yaiphaba PLEASE DO NOT POST the same problem stated a bit differently in 3 different threads ( it is against the forum rules) http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...roblem-832535/ and http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...roblem-832206/ and this thread are ALL the same problem the past "end of life" RHEL3 RHEL3 is nolonger supported --------------------------------------- you might want to look in to installing Ubuntu or Mint both are very user friendly AND have mp3 and dvd codecs installed by default divyashree from your post on this ( different thread ) the now dead and unsupported rhel 3 dose not have yum ( uptodate) is what was on it |
First, Red Hat ≠ Linux. Linux is just a kernel, Red Hat is one of many "distributions", or usable systems built atop Linux. Also, RHEL 3 is waaaaaay outdated. Upgrade before continuing.
|
Ouch, RHEL3. Any particular reason you are using that? I strongly suggest upgrading, or better yet, doing a fresh install of a completely free OS.
