Playing m4a files in Amarok and Mplayer

I can't get m4a files to play in Amarok, Rhythmbox, mplayer or totem. But I'm more concerned with playing the files in Amarok and mplayer. I browsed a bit and found that the Amarok was a front end for xine. I ran the following commands but it still won't play m4a files.

apt-get install xine-ui
apt-get install gstream*
apt-get install mplayer

Thank you for your time.

Not sure about Amarok. Check out debian-multimedia.org [for mplayer, try the w32codecs package]
