playing DVDs
I want to install a Linux distro on my laptop, but it's kind of important that I'm able to watch DVDs while traveling. I know that some of the major distros, because of legal issues, make that difficult. I installed SUSE on one laptop and found that they disabled the DVD playing ability of Kaffine. Does anyone have a suggestion of a distro that I could use where I wouldn't have to do a lot of command line modifications to watch DVDs?

I think that most of the distributions have disabled DVD playback and/or MP3 playback. However, it is very easy to download one of the popular dvd players, and the libdvdcss piece that allows you to play encoded DVD's.
Personally, I like Fedora Core. It has MP3 and DVD disabled by default, but you can get what you need by going to freshrpms.net. The DVD player that I prefer is OGLE, and the MP3 player that I prefer is XMMS. |
