Do you have a dvd drive?

Try MPlayer. It supports many codecs, including:
  • wmv (Windows media) ;)
  • Quicktime ;)
  • avi
  • mpg (mp3, mp4)
  • realplayer

see http://www.mplayerhq.hu/ for more information.

thanx, but VLC should be able to play dvd's i want all my players to be able to play dvd's i also believe the problem lies beneath the actual app i.e. i'm missing a library or some symbolic link is wrong???

thanx

but thanx again i'm compiling it now, also i seem to have found some essential codecs for the mplayer which i have installed, they seem to look hopeful, although i had to restart the compile coz i wanted ./configure to see the codecs and config mplayer compile accordingly
