Play audio on linux machine through ssh

Hi,

I am connecting to linux desktop using SSH from windows notebook and I would like to use some console based player to play music from linux machine.

I have tried several apps (moc, cmus, mp3blaster, mpg123 and couple more), but none of them were able to play music, unless I was logged in directly on linux PC. After I logged in physicaly to desktop, moc was able to play audio even using putty. But as soon as I logged out and left only ssh sesion opened on notebook, moc stopped playing.

Any guidance will be highly appreciated

If this will be a permanent server-style setup, you could always set up your music directory in a Samba share, then just play them like normal on the windows machine.

By this setup I will be able to play music from my "server" on my laptop speakers. But what I was trying to do was to open ssh connection from my laptop to server, run console based player in putty and play music through speakers connected to "server".

Anyway, suicidaleggroll, thank you for the answer.

And now for others having same problem. Just when I thought I will give up, I found this site: http://www.alanbriolat.co.uk/2009/03...-intrepid-810/

Apparently, pulseaudio is too user- and session-centric. After performing steps mentioned in this site, my "server" is playing music without any direct user session.
