Pinguy terminal opens to Desktop prompt by default

I am using pinguy linux 12.04 LTS a derivative of ubuntu. The distro is great but I have one annoying issue with the terminal.

When I open the terminal, by default, it opens to the Desktop location like so

How can I make the terminal open at my home folder like this
I've checked the /etc/profile and the preferences within the terminal app, but came up dry. I'm hoping the more experience ubuntu users know the answer.

I figured out why gnome-terminal opens to the Desktop directory. In pinguy OS, if I right-click on the desktop and select open in terminal, the terminal will obviously start at the desktop because it was launched by right-clicking on the desktop.

But if I launch the gnome-terminal manually it will open the terminal to my home directory like so

case solved and I'm glad
