PII 300, which distro, which release?

I have a PII 300 with 192MB of RAM and so far I have tried the latest Mandrake, Redhat, Lycoris and JAMD but they all seem way too slow on my PC.

I have been using KDE with most of the options turned down but it takes way too long to boot up, run applications...etc

Perhaps an older version of one of these? Where could I get this?

Thanks

instead of using KDE or Gnome maybe you should try a different, less process intensive Window Manager such as fluxbox :
http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/

I have a RH8 system with 386mb running fluxbox which operates as one of my Samba servers. I have no issues with this system being slow, but I guess it depends on what you are looking to do with your system.

I am just looking to learn. I have 2 other Windows XP boxes and know they very well. I want to fool around with some hardware, surf the web, word processing....everything but games....probably try to use it as a file server for the other 2 pc's

Where can I get an older distro?

Do you think JAMD with a different interface would work?

I don't know much about JMAD and I don't know how much an older disto would help you. If possible maybe you could try adding a bit of ram.
