Question PII 300 Laptop

simple and sweet.
I got an old PII 300 Laptop and want to try Linux. Put Linux 10 on and it works but to be honest win98 works faster.

It there a "lighter" Linux that does not need so much processor? Really only want the Laptop to Surf the net. But might progress to putting it on XP machine once I get the feel for it.

Welcome to LQ.

Linux 10 isn't a distribution. Perhaps you mean Mandrake 10?

Try Slackware, there is a lot less extra bloat with it.

You can try BasicLinux
Knoppix which runs on a CD.

Both of these can run either on a floppy or cd and won't affect anything on your HDD. Either way, I suggest you can try out slackware too.
