pidgin help


when i click on the internet tab i then go to messenger,the welcome screen comes up i add account: MSN (drop down menu)
shaylee1984 (ID)
####### (password that i
use to sign into MSN
shaylee (user name)
after i fill all that in i click save and my buddy list comes up blank none of my contacts from MSN and at the bottom of the page i notice it says shaylee1984@hotmail.com diconncted. then under that it says "our protocol is not supported by the server" can someone please help me

Hi -

There could be several reasons. Here's the first thing I'd look at:

Pidgin 2.4.3 and older versions use MSNP9, an outdated version of the MSN protocol that does not support status messages or offline messaging.

Pidgin 2.5.0 comes with updated MSN protocol support (MSNP15) and therefore supports these features.

If you have an MSN-related problem with Pidgin 2.4.3 or prior, update to the latest version.

Which version of pidgin are you running?

MSN have had several protocol changes, which often require updates to pidgin. If it cannot connect, then it cannot access your contact list from MSN.
