Question php4 & apache installed but will not run web pages with scripts

Hi all,
Using Fedora Core 2

The scripts definately work as they were written and tested by a Linux savvy friend . Not asking him to help as he just fixes and not shows, I wanna learn :+)

The problem is compounded by the fact that when I click to even edit a script it says the file has no association.

I'm not sure of what config info I need to post so any advice there too will be appreciated.

Thanks all

Oberon Ken Obi

Hi

Have you added

AddType application/x-httpd-php .phtml .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

in the appropriate section in the httpd.conf file in /usr/local/apache2/conf directory?

Hey, thanks for the two swift responses, in order are..

DirectoryIndex in httpd.conf includes index.html and index.html.var only.

I see no Mod_php at all -------------- How does one rectify that, or is it too big a question to answer shortly?

Thanks all awaiting further newbie instructions

Hi rylan76
The listed directory /usr/local/apache2/conf does not exist on my machine (that i can find anyways) I did find however 2 mentions of mime types in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
------------------start listing-------------------------------------------
# TypesConfig describes where the mime.types file (or equivalent) is to be found.
#

DefaultType text/plain

#
# The mod_mime_magic module allows the server to use various hints from the
# contents of the file itself to determine its type. The MIMEMagicFile
# directive tells the module where the hint definitions are located.
#
<IfModule mod_mime_magic.c>
# MIMEMagicFile /usr/share/magic.mime
MIMEMagicFile conf/magic
</IfModule>

----------------start listing-----------------------
# TypesConfig describes where the mime.types file (or equivalent) is
# to be found.
#
TypesConfig /etc/mime.types
----------------------- end listing ---------------------------

TypesConfig /etc/mime.types <----- contains no reference to php at all.

MIMEMagicFile /usr/share/magic.mime <---------- contains no reference to php

Also found /etc/httpd/modules/libphp4.so read it with vi and it was gobble de gook ie. not plain text, does that make a difference to not finding the mime types you mentioned?

I couldn't figure out the appropriate section to add those directives as your path differed from where mine is.

Feels waaay out of depth here, hope the info i just passed is of use to trouble shoot my problem, if not I dont even think i can supply anymore of use.

Thanks to all who looked (and are still looking) into my problem.
