Php Upgrading with Red Hat 9
I have Red Hat linux 9 installed on my pc.
Ive got all the possible official PHP updates but PHPBB says to
upgrade to 4.3.3 PHP and SMF installation starts, but cant get past the edit settings page. phpMyAdmin seems to run.
I tried upgrading to 5.2.5 but a whole load of dependency errors appeared.
libc.so.6
libcrypto.so.6
libmysqlclient.15
libssl.so.6
libcurl.so.3
libdl.so.2
libgmp.so.3
libgssapi_krb5.so.2
libidn.so.11
libk5crypto.so.3
and so on
If its impossible to upgrade PHP,
I would like to upgrade to a better, newer distro but i dont think this PC
can handle it. RH9 GNOME is slow when i open multiple windows.
If there is any distro newer than RH9 and can run on these specs please either email or reply:
Intel Celeron 400MhZ
SDRAM 130-128MB
4GB Harddisk + Another 9GB Harddisk
D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Lan Card (I really need support for this card)
Although i highly doubt any new distro would run on these specs.

Xubuntu.
Slackware.
Damn Small Linux.
Puppy Linux.
Gentoo.
Probably wanna grab Xubuntu, though...it may still be a little slow, but won't be nearly as bad as RH9.
And don't try to fix RH9. Just dump it.

ah ok... ill scrap RH9.
Im intending to use this PC as a webserver not a desktop PC.
Do you think CentOS 5 could possibly run?
If not, does Xubuntu have latest versions of:
httpd (apache)
mysql
maybe postgresql
and php?

iirc, it has the latest major releases, but may not have the latest versions. No distro will have the LATEST version. Generally, that can only be obtained by installing from source.
As for CentOS, I have no experience with it.
If you're going to use it as a server, I'm assuming you don't need a GUI, in which case I would recommend Slackware without a GUI.

CentOS would run on that, and if you like the Red Hat way of doing thing I highly recommend it. The graphical environment will be very slow, but if this is a server you don't really need a GUI. If you absolutely have to install one I think CentOS has lightweight window managers available.

CLI isnt my strong point but i can use basic functions. A GUI would certainly be easier.
For my system, would anyone recommend KDE? Im installing CentOS 4.5 i think. KDE is the smallest in terms of number of packages
