root@pcbsd# cd /usr/libexec/sendmail
root@pcbsd# ls a1 sendmail
ls: a1: No such file or directory
sendmail

ok, so, I've switched to postfix == ran postqueue -p and it shows that the emails are timing out -- so, we've eliminated sendmail, postfix should be configured properly -- what the heck could be interfering

can you post the output of /var/log/message when you try and send an email? also post the postfix config file? and if you have mutt or pine, or mail installed lets try sending out an email from it.

oh cr@p can't open /etc/aliases.db

ok - have beeen examining every log file and making corrections: now I get this in the logfile:
