php configuration erro libxml2 version 2.5.10 or higher required
 

Hello,
I have been trying to configure php 5.0.2 on my redhat linux box and I am getting the error below.

configure: error: libxml2 version 2.5.10 or higher required.

I then found something on the internet about updating it so that 's what I did. But every time I try to do so I get a list of failed dependencies. I have also tried to update libxml2-devel-2.6.14.rpm and libxml2-python-2.6.14.rpm and have had more failed dependencies. What can I do to get this updated and on my way. Thank you all in advance!

thepackage you want is just libxml2 and you can compile it from source. You can download it from gnome ftp site. Another option would be to look for an apt source for redhat containing latest updates, but they are quite hard to find since most people are creating apt repositories just for Fedora.

I have downloaded just the libxml2 rpm from www.xmlsoft.org and I tried to install that but recieved a failed dependencies list. How does the file on gnome differ from the rpm I already downloaded?
